LED phototherapy
Inspired by NASA research on photosynthesis, innovative LED (light emitting diode) technology has recently entered the sphere of cosmetic medicine. Also called “skin fitness” in the United States, LED has been successfully incorporated into anti-ageing therapy and in the treatment of many skin problems.
LED is monochromatic light which boosts the activity of fibroblasts, stimulating the production of collagen and inhibiting collagenase and hyaluronidase, the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of collagen and hyaluronic acid.
LED activity varies as a function of the colour of light and thus of wavelength. Therefore each disorder corresponds to a specific treatment. The main indications are anti-ageing photomodulation with a re-plumping effect; skin becomes more toned and firm, and the complexion looks more radiant. LED accelerates healing, improves stretch marks and acne. It also allows treatment of certain skin cancers after application of a photosensitizing substance (dynamic phototherapy).
LED reinforces the efficacy of aesthetic treatments and is therefore the ideal complement to other anti-ageing dermatology techniques. In its aesthetic indications, several sessions are necessary (1 per week for 4 to 6 weeks then 1 per month for 4 months). The effects are visible after 6 to 8 sessions.
